We’re hiring a part-time assistant manager

New City Thrift provides affordable goods, stewards donations with care, and supports Christ’s Loving Hands’ mission to love and serve Harrison in Christ’s name. We’re looking for an Assistant Manager who helps create a welcoming store for customers, donors, and volunteers.

When the Manager isn’t there, you’re expected to run the store as Manager on Duty and take ownership of anything that comes up during your shift. You’ll lead the entire store—sales floor, checkout, donation intake, and processing—assign and support volunteers, handle problems, and keep the work moving.

Take initiative, make timely decisions within the operating standards, get help when needed, and follow through. Escalating an issue does not end your responsibility: keep the Manager informed and provide a clear handoff for unresolved work. Follow the store’s cash controls, safety procedures, and approval limits. Model Christ-like servant leadership, humility, and respect while working alongside the team.

  • Part-time · 15–25 hours per week · Hourly pay based on experience. No employer-provided benefits.
  • In-store work, including Saturday shifts coordinated with the Manager and flexibility to help cover scheduling gaps.
  • Personal Christian faith and support for CLH’s mission; Christians across denominations are welcome. Strong organization, communication, and computer skills, and ability to lift 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Retail and leadership experience preferred.

Please read the full job description before submitting your application. We also encourage you to review the operating standards and launch packet.

You’ll need a résumé and a video cover letter of 90 seconds or less. References are optional. You can save your progress and return using a private link emailed to you.

We encourage applicants to consider volunteering at New City Thrift. It’s a great way to get a feel for the store, meet the team, and see whether it’s an environment you’d enjoy working in. Volunteering is not a requirement to be considered for a position, but it could be helpful for both you and us as we explore whether it would be a good fit.
